Newsletter January CRR23

Welcome back to the official newsletter of Clear River Racing! We returned from a well deserved winter break by the start of the new year. From now on more and more time will be spent finishing up designs and begin the manufacturing process.

Exciting news! We have officially been accepted for FSUK so this year we will travel to England and compete at Silverstone!

Let´s hear it from the groups!

Aerodynamics

During the month of January the Aerodynamics group has been busy. We started preparing for laminating by test laminating carbonfiber components using different methods to determine what will give us the best finish. We also started laminating the hood and seat of the car. Manufacturing of our insterts have also begun where several members have been getting education on how to use the lathe. Finally we have finished all the CAD drawings for our different molds and are now waiting for them to be delivered. Other than that the work has been going great and we are ready to fully begin the manufacturing process as soon as the molds arrive.

Chassis

The month of January has been a busy one for the chassis group, starting off with preparing drawings and material for our outsourcing partners. We then made another trip to Marstrom Composites to cure our last set of test panels for shear testing, tests which we performed later that same week. With that done our focus shifted to the Structural Equivalency Spreadsheet once more, a technical document surrounding the mechanical aspects of the chassis and battery storage for which the deadline is approaching rapidly. Parallel to all this though the group has done a tremendous job of still making great progress on the construction of the monocoque, now nearly done with the fitting of all aluminium honeycomb sandwich material leading us that much closer to a finished chassis.

Drivetrain & Electronics

During this past month Voltage has been working with a couple of things. We have been honing our 3D printing skills, working with new material as well as printed large prototypes of parts that will be manufactured. Our work with torque vectoring is beginning to show results, an initial proof of concept version is now running live on our vehicle control system. Alongside this we have been upgrading our test station where we now have a board that all our components and electrical systems are mounted on. We have also been soldering some electric circuits and begun testing the functionality of these circuits. Most of them has passed the function and quality control and will be used as the final product on the vehicle, and some require more work. We have created an inventory database of all components used in our circuits and of those we have in stock in our workshop. Lastly we have created drawings of our assemblies and parts that will be produced in-house.

Marketing & Finance

January was business as usual! Purchasing, development for the IN-Dagen for the next year’s team, and much more. We had some parts delivered to our sponsors Hanza, Luni Metall, and Bergs mekaniska for manufacturing and processing which we are truly grateful for! Moving forward, our focus will lie on projects lined up and preparing all the documents that we are presenting at Silverstone this year as well as supporting the team in various tasks whenever possible.

PR

This month PR:s work have mainly focused on continued work for our different channels, everything from graphic design for marketing material to filming interviews and content for upcoming projects. Other than that we have begun planning and preparing for different exhibitions that we will be attending during the spring and also began planning for our release which will take place on the 25th of May so save the date and keep updated for more information!

Suspension & Maneuvering

January have been a busy month for the Suspension & Maneuvering group. Back from the holiday break we are more ready than ever for manufacturing. This year our main sponsor Sandvik Coromant will help us manufacture various parts with complex geometry. Therefore, in the beginning of January, we finalized and sent the drawings for these parts to their skilled staff for inspection before manufacturing begins. The month have mostly consisted of creating drawings for the inhouse manufacturing. We really want to complete every drawing before we start manufacture in full scale in order to wholeheartedly concentrate on manufacturing when we enter that stage. Some of our members have however already got accustomed to our lathe where multiple inserts where created for the CRR23 car. We are currently getting started with the CNC mill where we are just now working in EdgeCam to create G-code, I am incredebly proud by how quickly the team have learnt the software. Next month we will start the CNC manufacturing, further cooperate with LaserTech in the manufacturing of our rockers as well as get our dampers tuned in by THT Suspension.

Happenings upcoming month

During February we will participate in different exhibitions in Karlstad. We will take part in a work-fair called Hotspot at Karlstads university on the 15th. You can find us at booth E11. Also on the 16th of February we will go to Sundsta-Älvkullen gymnasium in Karlstad to talk about our project! Hopefully we will get to meet some of you there.

Dont forget to follow us on our different social media to keep up and get even more behind the scene looks of the project! @clearriverracing on everything!

Take care and we will see you again in February!
